A simple activity that focuses on adverbs and being able to pick from 2 or 3 adverbs to decide which describes the action in the sentence most appropriately.

A diamond 9 activity that gets children to decide which synonyms for walk are the strongest verbs and which are the weakest before justifying their selection. Included is the original word and eight other synonyms, with the activity being useful as a starter as well as building up vocabulary for children by showing them other examples.

Five weeks worth of writing skills to practise independently. These can be used as a starter activity when pupils come in at the start of the morning, at the start of an English lesson as a starter or at any other spare moment during the day or even as a short intervention with a child or particular group of children. The activities over the week work on different skills around writing. These are similar across the booklets so far and include: Putting capital letters and full stops in the right place Completing ideas so they become full sentences Using because, but and so to complete sentences Writing their own independent sentences Using other conjunctions within a sentence Creating sentences that use particular punctuation to mark the end Editing and improving sentences There is also a themed booklet included with all the writing tasks for the week linked to thunder storms. This has been used to support a writing unit for a setting description that involves a storm but can also be used as a general resource. Over time, more booklets will continue to be added that work on different skills alongside the ones previously mentioned.

A lesson/ two lessons based on writing and punctuating direct speech. The lesson is based on the mini story of Geri's game that is shown on Literacy Shed with the key element of the lesson focussing on being able to describe what the two characters may say between one another and ensuring this is punctuated properly.

All credit due to Pobble with this then being taken and created as a lesson presentation and resources with ideas that children can then take and write about. Also included are some of my own word mats that children can use to support them with ideas. The prompts used for these are The Invisible Man which can be found on Pobble on the 13th May, Air Hotel 3000 on the 27th January, The Builders on the 2nd July, Shipwreck on the 29th June and Unwanted Visitors on 28th February.

A differentiated set of activities that requires children to define words before considering and applying the context they have been used in. Included is an extract from Chapter One of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to read through as a class. This can then be used as a discussion point and modelling before children then go off and work on their activities.

This lesson acts as an introduction/ recap of synonyms and antonyms as well as focussing on adjectives. The activities will help children identify how changing adjectives can create effective sentences. Included are all the resources needed for the lesson.
